New Plastic Economy China Workshop was Successfully held Online

On the afternoon of Septermber 9, 2021, the "New Plastic Economy China Workshop" co-hosted by China Association of Circular Economy and Ellen MacArthur Foundation was successfully held online. The purpose of the Workshop is to actively respond to plastic pollution, conduct in-depth exchanges on domestic and foreign policies and regulations, innovative models and typical cases related to plastic pollution control, further promote the transformation of China's plastics industry to a circular economy, and promote the development of plastic circular economy.

The workshop was moderated by Chen Xiaoting, Director of plastics program at Ellen MacArthur Foundation. Zhao Kai, Executive Vice president at China Association of Circular Economy; Sébastien PAQUOT, Counselor for Environment and Climate Change, Delegation of the European Union to China, and Guan Yisong, Head of Beijing Office, Ellen MacArthur Foundation, delivered speeches at the workshop. Nearly 80 representatives from relevant competent departments, internaional prganizations, industry associations, scientific research institutes, upstream and downstream enterprises in the entire plastics industry chain, and industry experts attended the meeting.

The panel discussion session invited expert representatives from China Association of Circualr Economy, China Packaging Federation, Plastic Recycling Association of CRRA, Insititute of Urban Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences (Xiamen) and other industry associations and research institutions. Representatives of upstream and downstream enterprises in the whole insustrial chain, such as Unilever, L’ORÉAL, Kingfa Science & Technology, Nestle, TOMRA, Xiamen Luhai Pro-environment, had an in-depth exchange on the status quo of low-value plastic waste recycling and the pilot construction of recycling system, focusing on the topic of low-value plastic waste recycling. At the same time, the representatives of the distinguished guests also discussed the development status and prospects of plastic circular economy in China, and jointly discussed the opportunities and challenges of promoting the cooperation and development of plastic circular economy.
