On August 28, 2020, the general office of the Ministry of Commerce issued the "Notice on Further Strengthening the Control of Plastic Pollution in the Commercial Field", which announced the phased task of banning and limiting plastic, and required that by the end of 2022, star hotels and other places nationwide will no longer actively provide disposable plastic products. By the end of 2025, the implementation scope will be extended to all hotels and homestays. According to the notice, by the end of 2020, the use of non degradable disposable plastic straws will be prohibited in the catering industry nationwide, and the use of non degradable disposable plastic tableware will be prohibited in the catering service in the built-up areas of cities above prefecture level; By the end of 2025, the use of non-degradable disposable plastic tableware in catering services in built-up counties will be prohibited, and the consumption intensity of non-degradable disposable plastic tableware in the food and beverage delivery areas of cities above the prefecture level will be reduced by 30%.
